- General note - Facade of the church built by the Franciscans in 1885 is starkly simple. The bell tower to the right of the church, once the province''s best, was reduced to half its height during the Japanese war. It was constructed sometime in the 1700''s Capul was one of the three earliest mission centers in Samar, the other two being Catbalogan and Palapag. The Jesuits came first, in 1596, followed by the Franciscans who took over in 1768 when the Jesuits were expelled from the colony. YYY
