General Note
  • General note - Legend has it that the wooden image of Our Lady was found by a fisherman named Juan Maningkad in 1603. Fray Juan Bautista de Montoya decided to have the image enshrined at the church of Taal, but the statue mysteriously disappeared. Several days later, two women fetching water from a spring found the image on the branch of a sampaga tree in the place now called Caysasay. The shrine now stands on this site, and is a living proof of the TaaleƱos devotion to Our Lady. (Source: Taal, Paulina Gahol Orlina, 1976) YYY
