General Note
  • General note - The scope of Balayan then included the now independent towns of Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Tuy, and Calaca. Balayan was then a thriving port that attracted pirates who constantly attack and loot the town. Hence, in 1754, a stone fort was built with the church and convento inside. Photo shows two of pillars by the church door. (Source: Batangas Forged in Fire, Ayala Foundation, Inc., 2002) YYY
