- General note - Personal account of an American girl (seven years old when the war broke out), who was with her parents in Del Monte, Mindanao at the outbreak of the war (the author's father worked with California Packing Co., exporting pineapples). - Roderick Hall She describes pre-war life at Del Monte (illustrated with some rare photographs). She details the start of the war and its impact on their lives, evacuation to the mountains and capture by the Japanese. The author and her parents, along with others, were interned in Impalutao; Davao; and Santo Tomas, where she was liberated. She narrates the battle of Manila, and adds notes on the 5th Air Base Group, edible plants and other items related to her experience. The book is based in part on the diary she kept.
