Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc - "Japanese aggression in the Pacific in December 1941 overwhelmed British and American forces in the Far East. The sudden attack of the Philippine Islands on December 8th, 1941, stranded thousands of Americans who now faced an uncertain and frightening future. Over 3700 businessmen, housewives and school children were thrown into a set of circumstances which would lead them through over three years of starvation, sickness and death. They were forced to leave their homes and belongings; forced to leave their friends and way of live to live under the domination of the mighty Imperial Forces of Japan. They were interned within the walls of an old Spanish university which would be called the Santo Tomas Internment Camp. Their stories commemorate the human spirit and their will to organize and survive or face untold consequences."
  • Summary, etc - "Described in photos, old film footage, and personal interviews of survivors, this film describes life behind the walls of "Santo Tomas Internment Camp". At first an annoyance and inconvenience, the internees became involved in a struggle for survival as the Japanese systematically starved their inmates over three years. By Christmas of 1944, time was running out. In a dramatic rescue, a column of the First Cavalry Division liberated the camp on the evening of February 2, 1945" - Roderick Hall
