| General Note |
- General note - "In this work, the author, a great-grandnephew of the Philippine national hero, focuses on the internal struggle that must have deeply stirred Jose Rizal before his execution, and the marvelous final triumph of divine grace in his sole. The author clearly points out that the compulsory reading in our schools of Rizal's Noli and Fili is quite unfortunate. This policy, which exposes young and often defenseless readers of these novels to false charges against the Catholic faith--errors which the great patriot later retracted at the end of his life--continues to be a glaring violation of the freedom of consciences of Catholic students in the country. The book also highlights the accomplishments and heroic deeds of the much-maligned Spanish friars during the evangelization of the Philippines."
- General note - Contents: The denigration of a hero -- The friars in the Philippines: heels or heroes? -- Our stubborn refusal to honor Rizal's last will -- The hard facts about Rizal's conversion and retraction -- Rizal's last hours: initial resistance to grace -- Rizal's last hours: what caused his conversion?
