Those internees who had managed to sleep at all on what they thought was their last night on earth woke in the morning of February 23 to the most beautiful sight they had ever seen--waves of American parachutes floating down from the sky at dawn. I can still remember my parents waking me and pointing to them with speechless joy. It is among my earliest memories."
