Dauntless author Marie Silva Vallejo returns with new insights into one of World War II’s most overlooked stories—the courageous service of the 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments, U.S. Army, and the clandestine 1st Reconnaissance Battalion who conducted secret submarine missions throughout the Philippine islands.
In this updated presentation, Vallejo explores the regiments’ contributions during major Philippine campaigns, and how their wartime service shaped postwar opportunities for these soldiers and their families in the United States.
The Roderick Hall Memorial Lectures are an annual lecture series to commemorate the longtime patron of Filipinas Heritage Library (FHL), Mr. Roderick Hall. Mr. Hall built The Roderick Hall Collection over the course of his lifetime. Each talk in the lecture series promotes a uniquely Filipino experience of World War II and how the legacy of the war continues to be felt in present times. FHL thanks the Hall family for their continued support.

Speaker
Marie Vallejo has a degree in Education. Her corporate life was with Intel Corporation in Santa Clara, California in Audit and Data Security. She was on the board of the American Historical Collection in Manila. She spearheaded the digitization of the Philippine Guerrilla Recognition Files in the Philippine Collection at the US National Archives to make available to all the names of guerrillas who fought during WWII. The book DAUNTLESS was a ten-year project and fills a gap in the history of the Philippine liberation and the planning of the Allies return on their way to Japan.
