13 Jan In Memoriam: Roderick McMicking Hall
Today (January 13, 2022) the community lost a staunch advocate of war memory, an ardent supporter, and a beloved patron, Mr. Roderick Hall. Having survived the Second World War himself, he dedicated his life’s work to honoring its survivors and veterans: the Filipino, American, and Japanese heirs of that history.
Mr. Hall collected various resources of war memory, and supported their preservation, digitization, and accessibility through his collection at FHL. He helped tirelessly to create public programs and linkages with partners and institutions around the lessons of WW2.
It was Mr. Hall’s desire to make the materials he gathered useful to many people advocating peace beyond the moment of enmity. No matter how deep the wounds of war, he championed the idea that connection and meaning can be built past suffering.
With profound sadness, we condole with his family and friends during this difficult time. FHL is committed to honoring his legacy and continuing his mission of commemorating the struggles and hard-won insights of the Second World War.
