Vocalist Abby Clutario and guitarist-composer Johnny Alegre lead HUMANFOLK on the routes of the kulintang and OPM classics.
Formed in the summer of 2008, HUMANFOLK is a pioneer in the contemporary Philippine and world music scene. Under the banner of indigenous and urban folk, they mark the convergence of the musical styles of jazz, rock, and electronica blended with the local sounds of the kulintang and indigenous percussion.

Richie Quirino
Jazz Historian and Author
A graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he has written a trilogy of books tracing the history of jazz in the Philippines: Pinoy Jazz Traditions (2004), Mabuhay Jazz (2008), and Contemporary Jazz in the Philippines (2010). He is also a producer and author of the documentary, The Story of Jazz in the Philippines (2012).
Sandra Lim-Viray
Jazz Festival Director and Vocalist
Sandra is Manila’s Jazz Diva, a vocalist of Ella-like pathos and range. Her mastery of scat has taken her to performances around the world including the U.S., Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Determined to grow the jazz community and promote jazz awareness, Sandra is the organizer of the Philippine International Jazz and Arts Festival, the longest-running jazz festival in the Philippines.

Formed in 2017 by band leader Mike Guevarra, Project 201 is a collaboration between UST and UP academics and musicians. It is one of the leading vanguard jazz groups in the Philippines. The band transforms Pinoy pop songs and traditional folk tunes into jazz with a twist in Jeepney Jazz Session One.

Inspired by Dan Gil’s love of jazz and song-writing, he New York, Cubao Project follows a fictitious Filipino music group in the 1950s. While the style of the music uses American jazz standards, the songs are in Tagalog and the lyrics, brought to life by Bituin Escalante, reflect the sentiments of the era.
New York is the melting pot of modern jazz, but it is also a street in Cubao. Historically, this street was part of Camp Murphy, whose setting is another influence of he New York, Cubao Project.
Let Jeepney Jazz transport you to post-war Manila, a time when love and jazz were reborn.
